This October is a very important month for us, because it marks 60 years since Conde Fernández Hermanos was founded! Needless to say, at Conde we are delighted to be able to celebrate this anniversary in the company not only of our fantastic team, but also of all the clients and professionals who have supported and trusted us. Reaching six decades is no small feat; it is a long time that we have spent working hard and during which, of course, we have learned a great deal about the sectors in which we operate.
Road freight transport and logistics are rapidly changing fields. Not surprisingly, these sectors are vital to the functioning of many businesses and are closely linked to advances in technology. And we cannot forget the regulations governing transport and logistics, another factor that is constantly evolving. Over the past 60 years, we have witnessed and been part of many of these changes, and we will continue to do so in the years to come. Because the most important thing we have learned during this time is that adaptation is the key to our success.
A family business since 1965
To put the history of our company into perspective, Conde Fernández Hermanos was founded in 1965. A lot has happened since then! Although we are now based in the A Coruña area, Conde was actually founded in Valdeorras, Ourense, by three brothers who had returned from Switzerland. In the beginning, Conde only offered road freight transport services. It was during the 1970s that we moved to A Coruña, acquiring our first facilities for the maintenance of our growing fleet at the time.
The first major change, and the first lesson we learned at Conde, came in 1987. That year, we not only expanded our infrastructure, but also began offering our logistics and storage services for the first time. Although that service was only a small part of what we do today, it was a key decision for the company, as it made our offering much more comprehensive and tailored to the needs of our customers. At that time, at Conde we were not satisfied with what we had, but decided to adapt to a constantly changing market and continue to grow.
Without a doubt, this is a goal we have never abandoned. Over the years, we have acquired and built new warehouses and logistics centres that have allowed us to substantially improve our services. Today, the Espíritu Santo Industrial Estate is our main centre of operations, where both our headquarters and our largest logistics centre are located. And, of course, we are not stopping there, as we have recently started construction on a new warehouse in the municipality of Oleiros. It is clear that we started out as a transport company, because we never stop!
We grow at and beyond home
At Conde, we are a 100% Galician company, there is no doubt about that. But we cannot forget that our founders emigrated to Switzerland before returning and creating the company. As a family business, we would never dream of abandoning that adventurous and entrepreneurial spirit! That is why, over time, we chose to extend our freight transport service beyond the borders of Spain. Today, we provide extensive coverage throughout Europe, including non-member countries.
Naturally, international freight transport involves proper management, with specific requirements that are not always required by our national regulations. Not to mention the technological deployment necessary to undertake this service, in order to monitor routes via GPS, the status of loads, etc. However, at Conde we never saw these factors as obstacles, but rather as challenges to be overcome, necessary to ensure our business growth.
Of course, both inside and outside Spain, one thing we have learned is that our transport and logistics offering must be broad and diverse, even customisable. Not all customers travel the same routes or send the same volume of cargo; each one requires specific solutions, sometimes tailor-made for them. For this reason, one quality we have incorporated into our identity is flexibility, being able to respond to every need effectively and quickly. Today, this is a competitive advantage that not only helps us grow as a company, but also improves our relationship with our customers.
Trust and commitment: the pillar of our company
Because, ultimately, one of the most important pillars underpinning all our work and our history is this: our customers trust us. Although we are constantly improving our services and expanding our offering and infrastructure, it is our friendly and personal approach that has made us a leading transport and logistics company. Above all, at Conde we are committed to providing a high-quality, meticulous and punctual service.
This commitment is also a matter of social responsibility in our work as a company. It is no secret that freight transport and logistics have a significant impact on the environment, and at Conde we strive to reduce our particular impact as much as possible. For this reason, and as we do every year, we have registered with the Carbon Footprint Registry of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. As professionals in this sector, it is very important that we do our bit to combat climate change and take care of our planet.
It has been a long journey to get where we are today, but at Conde we are not content with just six decades of history. We continue to grow, we continue to learn and we continue to improve so that we can always be an up-to-date transport and logistics company, capable of acting quickly and getting where we need to be. Not everyone can boast a 60th anniversary, and we know that this comes with a great responsibility. But, as in all these years, at Conde Fernández Hermanos we will work to live up to expectations!
